Regarding Horns

Post by zanthal »

Hello everyone, nice to meet you. I have a question.

Image

I'm using the above pictured pipe as an example. I'm trying to work out a design to make a briar horn of my own.

My question is about the chamber shape. From what I hear from the few others I've met who own horn shaped briar pipes, they tell me their chamber is drilled straight.

It "appears" to me that the pipe above has a chamber that has been shaped to be somewhat like the side-view shape of the entire pipe. Is this a no-no? Should the chamber be straight?

Thank you :)

Of course it should be straight.

Not sure how you would drill a curved tobacco chamber. Do you mean angled? If that's what you mean then yes. On this design the tobacco chamber most likely angles towards the stem/airway as opposed to being perpendicular to the rim.

I just happen to have a diagram using this exact pipe from last time I answered this question.

Imagine the luck!

Wouldn't be surprised if you posted that on the other forum I frequent.

I thought it ought be straight as well. Probably an optical illusion in the pic.

Thank you :D

Did you get that picture from Smokershaven.com? Looks familiar.

I actually just plucked it from a Google Image search for an example.

My block and stem will get here from Tim West tomorrow, looking forward to this. Not sure if the block will make a good horn shape or not but, we'll see.
