Trying to save a block - Help needed

Post by brurobas »

Good afternoon,

Yesterday i was drilling a block and i made a mistake with the miscalculation of the mortise direction.

I had to try and reshape the whole pipe and now i am trying to save the block and make a smokable pipe.

The drilling is very nice, everything is centered.

The problems are:

- I had to improvise a shape and try and do a freehand
- The wood has some flaws and so i am thinking of rusticating it

What do you think of how it is looking right now?

What do you think i should try and make diferent so that i end up with a nicely looking pipe?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Seems to me you have plenty of meat left on the walls to make the stummel cylindrical and turn the entire pipe into a pretty nice tilted poker.

Something like this:

Looks like you've got a poker still in there if your chamber isn't too deep. Otherwise, you're pretty close to a tankard. All you need to do is sharpen things up a bit.

I agree. Turn that sucker into a poker, be careful of the bottom though. I would hate for you to sand into the air hole or chamber. Be sure and show us what happens!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I wanted to turn it into a poker but i was afraid i didn't have enough wood on the bottom and on the sides to make it happen.

I ended up removing some more wood, mainly from the connection between the stummel and the shank and finished it off with a rustication, black dye on the stummel and light brown on the shank and bottom / top of the bowl.

I will polish it latter and then post some pictures.

Thank you once again.
