Shank extension preparation

Post by Multidimensional »

I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what you prepare your shank extension and briar surface to before epoxying the extension to teh briar? Sand it down to 600 or just sand to 320 and epoxy it? any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks Random,

One thing though, does the epoxy seep into the space between the shank extension and teh briar, i guess it would be the shoulder of the tenon of the extension and the face of the mortise of the briar? I mean when I look at pipes with boxwood extensions or the like it looks like there is no gap at all between it and the briar. I imagine it would have to be prepared in some way to fit so smoothly to the briar? Thanks again for the help
Cheers
Bryan
