Post by jbacon »

what are some of the different tools and techniques everyone is using for countersinking the mortise. the pimo tool for countersinging the mortise is
a 1/2 82 deg countersink. please if you can be detailed. i normally drill a 5/16 mortise. tyler has posted that he uses a round nose grinder -please what size.

FWIW, I also use the counter sink tool like that offered from Pimo.

I have no idea what size the grinding stones are...a fellow gave about a dozen different shapes and sizes to me before I was a pipe maker. Turns out they have come in very handy. Roughly, the diameter of most of the stones is 1 1/2" or so. Some have long rounded taper profiles like a nice tobacco chamber, and some are steeply tapered at 45°. A large ball also works nicely. I use different sizes and shapes depending on the size of mortise I am working on.

Hope that helps.

I just grabbed a countersink bit out of the tool crib at Lowes. I can't recall which one it is - it was the one that "looked about right".
