Hello everybody,
I've been viewing this Forum for quite a while now, and figured it was time to pipe up, so to speak.
I made my first tobacco pipe in 1973, and have made them on and off through the years just for my own amusement and gave them to friends. I decided early last year to begin pipemaking in earnest, and have been setting up a shop to do so. It should be completed by early summer. I've worked in several different media, including woods, stones and metals. I was a art major in school, and I have a good bit of experience in machinery design and fabrication. I've been into woodcarving since I was a 7 year old boy. Back in 2000, my brother and I were sculpting and stone carving, producing commissioned architectural ornamental reproduction work of mostly European statuary, fountains, fireplace mantles in Indiana Limestone. That kind of work nearly wrecked the joints in my fingers!
I live in WA State at present, but planning to retire in 2 years and set up shop in South Dakota, where I'm going to make pipes, fish on Lake Oahe/Missouri River and do a lot of bird hunting with my Brittany Pointer Maggie.
Glad to be in such fine company!
HL
