Ebonite and Vulcanite

Post by NvilleDave »

Are these two materials basically the same thing? If not, can anyone give a pro/con comparison of the two?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

They're basically different names for the same thing. Ebonite is sometimes though of as a higher quality material though. A lot depends on the curing process and how much sulphur is added to harden the rubber. Usually a higher sulphur content means that the material will oxidise faster.

Dave,

It seems to me that these days vulcanite is usually used to refer to premolded stems, and ebonite to rod stock (hand cut stems).

I have heard that German ebonite is the premier stock. Other opinions?

There should be at least something, we are "premier stock" supplier for, and if it is only vulcanite…
Man, even Mercedes’ intl. sales are breaking in due to quality issues.

Well friend, I've had a C 240 an ML 320, and currently an E 320 and it's the best vehicle I've ever driven.

Oops better be careful or we'll be forced to the general discussion board :)
