Rhodesian 8/10/18

Post by Doug535 »

Interested in critique on the stummel shaping and what if anything you would change. First time on this shape and there are a couple things I would change in my process of doing the cap and airway/mortise drilling that I have noted for the next try. There are some bubble inclusions in the ebonite so this will definitely be a shop pipe anyway. Thanks as always for any pros and cons.

The stem is under-bent if you were shooting for the English Vibe with that pipe.

If so, here's the relationship between the bite zone and top of the bowl you want:

(the arrows show the range of the bend---its start and stop points)

The rings are too thick and too far apart for my taste. Also, the band between the two grooves around the cap should be the widest part of the bowl diameter. Symmetry looks good on the bowl. Overall, it's a good pipe.

Thanks George and Wayne.
Wayne what should I be shooting for roughly on the ring width?
Should the top ring be on the downward slope and the lower ring at the bottom edge of the widest part of bowl then?

Here it is completed.
