I hadn’t planned to show my NAPCC entry this year, but circumstances have dictated otherwise, because this baby ain’t making the trip.
Had the box open on the bench with sleeve and packing material handy, but decided the stem need just a tad more time with the White Diamond.
I have a net for under the buffer, but I didn’t need it for a little stem buff (really?).
Ah, well...... I have a new shop pipe (after a bit of epoxy and maybe SS tubing) which has a name- Awww F*****K (sounds vaguely Chinese, eh?), and to which is attached a cautionary tale.
Well on to plan B- which involves a 3 hour drive back from the beach to finish one of the other contenders.

Doc ---
Do NOT open the airway to ss tube diameter first and then assemble w/glue. It won't line up. (I could explain, but am not in a typing mood. Just trust me.)
Instead, glue the shank back together, THEN open to ss tube "smooth slip fit" diameter to within appx 5/16" of the chamber, and glue in the sanded-for-texture tube.
The length of the tube should be exactly from the small step at the 5/16" mark to the bottom of the mortise.

George,
Got it.
Thank you.
I had considered the difficulties in making a tube diameter counter bore which was concentric and parallel in two oieces which would also line up the outer surface of the shank and it did appear to be a task fraught with potential screw ups.

ooh! now that is a top-notch, had to figure it out but ducking it up first (or be thoughtfully brilliant like the good Doc...) piece of advice.....

Well, I drove 3 hours back from the beach and finished the 2 pipes that were in the queue for the NAPCC.
One is in the box headed for KC.
It’s pretty OK if you ask me. No photos until after next week end since a couple of judges haunt this forum.
Now I’m back at the beach enjoying the grandchildren, sun, and sand.
