Here's something you don't see every day
A guy who collects the original English-made Bings happened across five stem-less stummels in good shape. (Their previous owner was a monster chewer? Left them in a bleach bath for too long? No idea...) Anyway, he sent the five stummels along with an original stem from another pipe as a pattern, and said, "Do yer thing."
Now I know what working in a factory feels like.

That repetitive production amazes me.

It boggles the mind to see in person how effortlessly he can make a stem. Absolute gorgeous work George!
Re: Here's something you don't see every day
Maybe its just the lighting, but LLs stems look better shaped and more elegant than the original particularly in the 'waist' area.
Re: Here's something you don't see every day
At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, because I have made this observation before, I will point out that the 5 stems on the right are superior to the example stem on the left. The example stem on the left has a vague bulging and flattening in the midportion as delineated by the blurred and diverging gleam lines, whereas the 5 done by George are almost mathematical in the precision of their lines. The lines are absolutely parallel and then diverge into the fishtail uniformly, and they are clear and sharp.
While it is not really fair to compare stems finished by a factory worker who made a few bucks an hour with a craftsman, once again I am blown away with George’s precision.
The customer certainly has 5 pipes which are better than the day they came from the factory, and I am not even addressing the internals of those stems.
Well done , George!

You sound more like a lackey or toady than a sychopant, IMO.DocAitch wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:16 pm At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, because I have made this observation before, I will point out that the 5 stems on the right are superior to the example stem on the left. Don't pay any attention to Tyler, N80.
He's one of those flaky guys who thinks his six-figure engineering management job + four daughters and a wife are more important than making pipes.

Now you guys go switchin' names around on me... tryin' to make me think I'm gettin' senile, right?
Well, it's not gonna work. My memory is as sound and healthy as Neil Armstrong's moon landing last month. (Wasn't that an amazing sight?)
