Briar snuff jar

We all make stuff other than pipes, so here's a place where "anything goes" as far as showing off some of your projects and other hobbies.

Briar snuff jar

Post by Maddwarf69 »

Decided to see if I could use a standard tap and die on an acrylic rod offcut... idle hands ya know. Then I just had to use it on something, so I made a snuff jar. The body was made from a briar reject block with a crack on the stem. The threaded pieces wouldn't fully thread together, need a bottoming die, so I turned a mahogany spacer from yet another scrap.

For what it's worth, I found coarse threads cut better. I suspect the threads would be much better with tooling that hasn't been abused for 4+ decades.

There is more contact with finer threads hence greater friction. You need plenty of lube.
