Friends,
A Facebook group for PMF has been created, and everyone is invited to join and check it out. The intent is not to move traffic from here to there, but the other way around. Hopefully it introduces the forum to more people, and gives them a gateway that isn't quite as intimidating as jumping right in here can be.

A request: please don't overwhelm the new page with chummy smart-assery. That we are all friends is a great and natural result of our time here learning to make pipes, but that's not the point of the forum. The forum is to learn/help with pipe making. I'm hoping the Facebook group creates a less intimidating place to start to participate in what we have here, and I'm asking the veterans to please be conscious of that. Think of the Facebook page as the place we invite guests we want to impress, so fewer fart jokes is probably a decent strategy. I've never had a heavy hand with moderation here, but I can imagine being more strict there in order to facilitate a welcoming environment. Please don't make this hard. You have all gained a lot here, let's pass that on.
That said, I want us to offer valuable and honest critique. The point isn't to coddle and swoon over newbies. It's to help them. Do for them what was done for you.
In other news, this is the first of a few changes/features that will be rolled out in the next few months. Let's make PMF great again!

Good thoughts. I'll keep my hands to myself.

Word. Let's revitalize this biznatch.

I'll do my best to be polite.
Re: New Facebook presence and other fun announcements
OK, so I know this is a very old thread, but... I never warmed up to the Facebook group. Tried diving in a time or two, but it mostly got lost in my feed, and I seldom checked it out.
Now I'm reevaluating my use of Facebook altogether. Too much of my time waisted, and recently, some extremely concerning revelations about Facebook's impact on people's lives in general (especially folks on the edge), all while they are clearly pointing their algorithms at increasing engagement (and $$$) over concern for what it's doing.
The end result is I have more time and found myself here again

Re: New Facebook presence and other fun announcements
Welcome back, Scott! I came to the same conclusion regarding FB a few years ago. It and other social media platforms can be pretty toxic environments and were especially bad for my own mental health. I've found that in person human interactions are more valuable and healthy than I ever gave credit. If nothing else, the social media experiment is truly highlighting that truth. It's too bad because the good things about social media (ie. staying connected with family and friends) was great but not worth the overall sacrifices. Anyway, I look forward to reading your contributions here again.

Re: New Facebook presence and other fun announcements
Some subjects are best handled with linear (threaded) discussion and lots of clear photos. Pipe making is one of them.
FB and its siblings are designed---literally---to be a limbic system activator/feedback loop. An addictive mechanism that people will plug into like those hoardes on a Vegas casino floor playing slot machines until they drop from exhaustion. Its purpose is to learn via machine learning/algorithm what a person likes, then envelop them in targeted advertising. i.e. Sell Stuff.
That simply isn't the mission, here.
