HudsonPipes

Hi everyone!

Picked up the pipe about 2 years ago when I inherited a bunch of old pipes from my great grandmother. Apparently she had some pretty good taste and because of that I started my smoking experience with some pre republic petersons, barlings, Irwins and others. Researching the history (and value) of the pipes got me interested in cleaning and restoring the pipes. That led me yo start down the rabbit hole. I've started refurbishing pipes and am awaiting my first order from vermont freehand. I hope to one day start making my own pipes.

Can anyone direct me to some threads on making a pipe without a lathe?

Assuming you have a drill press, then basically one equation gets solved by using delrin tenons.

There's a stickied thread in the stem making category about this. So that solves the problem of how do you keep the pipe stem in the stummel. After that, the lathe is really not used that much. Shaping, filing, sanding, mostly not lathe stuff.

But you do need to drill accurately, so if you don't have a drill press, that's where you need to start.
