How about a PITH?
AKA: Pipe In The Hat
I was reading a knifemaking BB recently and saw a couple threads on a KITH (Knife In The Hat). Basically, the participants make a knife, everyone's name goes onto a list, and the knives get exchanged between makers.
This post seems to explain the process pretty well, so I won't rehash words or reinvent the wheel explaining it:

I figure we could do it exactly the same way, we'll keep a list of participants in the order they joined the PITH, and you send a pipe to the guy below you in the list, and the last guy on the list sends to the first. Think of it as the ultimate in learning exercises - and a chance to have your pipe critiqued in person by a fellow pipe lover.
Anyone want to participate? Anyone have a suggestion for a deadline for joining the PITH?
Here, I'll start the list with my name and add on from there:

Thanks Steve--I just want someone to have a nice pipe--I let the slot get a little tall on this one so the bit ended up thicker than I wanted so whoever gets it may not like it anyway (I think it's like .180 or so) If anyone is interested in working out a trade for another one of my pipes please let me know.magruder wrote:Boy Dave, you're setting the bar pretty high.
Nice pipe :thumb:
Best Regards,
Steve

Wow, Dave! Incredible looking pipe!
I can't decide if I want to keep the PITH pipe a surprise for the recipient, or if I want to show it off. I will say that it has a bamboo shank.
I'd really like to see more folks joining in the PITH. Don't be afraid to toss in because you think your work won't meet standards - think of it as reason to push yourself to the next level. I can't imagine anyone not appreciating the amount of work poured into something made by hand.
Any ideas for cutoff date for joining in?

I agree with Dave on the cutoff date. That way I have time to get another pipe knocked out, hopefully.
