Spanish briar

Post by KurtHuhn »

I've just ordered a pile of ebauchons from Jaume Hom in Spain. This is spanish briar, harvested in the province of Girona.

This is my first time dealing with Jaume, and so far it has been a very pleasurable experience. I should be receiving them in a couple months (sent via ship) and I'll report back on them then.

Anyone else have any dealings with Jaume? Opinions on his briar?

I have bought some in the past from him with very good results.

This is one I made from his wood.

I found it to be very light in weight.

My pipemaking friend Paul Tatum bought a load of wood from him, and has been very happy with the results. It smokes great too, as I have been smoking a pipe that Paul made me as a gift for quite a while now! Jaume sent me some samples and they were excellent in quality, but then ALL "samples" are excellent in quality... ;) I haven't needed any briar for a long time, but I may try a bag eventually, just to get a feel for the stuff.
Happy Smoking,

I also have a pipe that Paul made, and it smokes great as well.

I too have used many of Jaume's briar, and have had exellent results... It's pretty darn clean, is very light and smokes very well... here are a couple of samples...

This pipe was made with a block of his Extra Plateaux (one light stain):

This is a very good example of his wood natural color (No stain used in this pipe. Made from an Extra Ebauchon):

His briar has a lovely virgin color, slighly pinkish... it makes it hard to stain, because the natural hue is so nice! 8)

Good Luck!
