The compressor was wired in on Thursday afternoon, and I played around with it on Friday, and I made a pipe on Saturday. It is one of the ASP 2006 Authors, and it sold before I could put it on the site.
The compressor doesn't run on 115 like the web page says. It runs on 240v single phase.
This is a powerful combination. I can blast full bore and the compressor will cut on, catch up with me and cut off while I've got the trigger pulled the entire time!
I am very happy with it!
The electrician asked what I was going to use such a big ol' compressor for. I pointed at my two wheeled wheelbarrow from Walmart with air tires, and told him that those damn tires get flat every winter, and I need something to pump 'em up with.
That's a great setup Rad. Someday I'm going to have to spring for a bigger compressor. My compressor eventually falls behind and doesn't catch up. I'm gonna need a bigger one.
Nice looking blast too Rad! You know, I didn't really like blasted pipes at first but now I absolutely love them.
Rad,
Great set up and beautiful pipe. I noticed the enlayed piece on the shank...did you glue that in after the sandblasting or did you cover it during the blasting process. If you did it prior, how did you protect your edges to create/maintain the tight fit? Thanks in advance.

Very nice! I waverd back and forth about getting a bigger comrpessor than I have - mine does 15 SCFM at 100 PSI, and it's good for blasting, but at times I wish that it had a little higher output. Maybe some day I'll upgrade, then I can put the other one on full-time bike tire duty.
I like that blast cabinet. That would free up some space for me, and since I'm tossing one that's a serious POS, I'll have to bookmark that page.
Paul Tatum told me early on that whatever compressor I got, I would wish I had gotten a bigger one, so I got a bigger one than I thought I would ever need.
I'll probably regret it later on.
It does do an excellent job on the wheelbarrow tires though.
Great ring grain, and very even blast with a nice depth to it. I really like the color too. Sets it off nicely. Looking forward to seeing more blasts from you.
I'm hoping to add a sandblaster at some point. I have a compressor, but will need to check on if it's up to the task. I tried rustification for the first time on my second pipe (last weekend), which turned out to have major flaws. It only got worse. It was a diaster! I don't think anything would have fixed it.
I like the look and feel of sandblasting over rustification.
Have visited your site several times of late, and I really like your work Rad. Lots of inspiration there. Very nicely put together site too.
I might have been "forewarned" had you mentioned your displeasure with Skatblast cabinets a few weeks ago when I emailed you asking for some equipment purchasing advice.
Your blog post dated yesterday hardly forewarns me about a purchase I made 2 weeks ago.
Anyway, I am very happy with my cabinet, so there!
LOL! Sorry. I debated whether to mention it or not, but thought that it would be better if you knew of possible trouble spots ahead of time than not. I didn't mention my displeasure with my SkatBlast simply because there are so many different brands and models that I never figured you'd buy the same thing! I hope you have none of the problems I've had, but keep an eye especially on the issue of glove condition and replacement. The hose pops are no big deal, you can get replacement hose anywhere.
I just ordered another Cyclone unit today to sit next to the one I got last autumn. They're small, but so far I'm *extremly* impressed. Way better than that Grizzly I got a while back - which I can't even stand to look at right now.
