Which combination of speed is better?

For those of you that are experienced wood lathe users, which combination of speeds is better for pipemaking?
480, 1270, 1960, 2730, 3327, 4023 or
500, 800, 1250, 1800, 2650, 3700.
or are they so close that it doesn't matter.

This is what I use:

Drilling/boring/facing briar and vulcanite: 500RPM
turning vulcanite: 1240RPM
turning briar: 1800RPM
Sanding: 850 - 1800 (depending on material and grit)
buffing with tripoli: 1800
buffing with white diamond: 1240
applying carnuba: 1240
final buff: 850

I mostly use 8-inch buffing wheels.

Just from my experience I would prefer the 500, 800..... The speed gap between 480 and 1270 seems a little wide to me and wouldn't give me as much control. And most everything I do is 1800 or under anyway so the high top end speed wouldn't help me that much either.
