Thanks, I made it thinking to myself "Ok I want to have a sandblast for Chicago so no matter what the grain looks like, I am going to blast this one"
Then I saw it and thought, "No way, I will blast another" :naughty:

That pipe did not sell actually. I did well, sold 5 of 7 that I brought but not that one. Many people picked it up but no one actually took it home. They probably opted for one of Brads or Jeffs instead.

Wow, that really IS nice! You really nailed the grain with that shape, and I can sure see why it didn't see media! I've simply got to get to Chicago next year. Hope I don't have to quit my job to do it!

I have a design question for you John. The two lines on the pipe: Were those part of the design, or did you follow some contour in the wood?

The edge running long the belly of the pipe was there because that was where the grain was changing. I wanted to have a definite point of transition there. The second edge running down the bowl was put in to create the "hood" on the bowl, to add to the asymetrical nature of the piece and to make the top view profile a bit more interesting.

That's a beautiful pipe. I like the shape and the way you mounted the stem in the stummel. Bravo

The echo of movement in the trim's very nice, complementing this thoughtful treatment. Very pretty, John.

nice pipe and i like the idé with the double drilled insert for the stem (tenon) so the saddle is pushed into the shank a bit...

Actually John when I saw this pipe in Chicago I thought it would be the first one to sell. Really a nice piece of work.
