I want a wood lathe that is powerful enough to turn and drill on. I also want it to be able to take a talon or oneway chuck. Is the only difference between these to chucks the width of a block it will handle??
What are your recommendations and where I can obtain them? Thanks!!
recommended wood lathe for talon or oneway chuck?
High ben,
My recomendation for a wood lathe is the Delta Midi lathe. I chose it over the General Mini, because it has more slow speed range. This will give you more variety in drilling, sanding, and buffing. Also I chose the Talon chuck because I didn't want to deal with the two handles for tightening the jaws. I did assesorise the chuck with three different types of jaws. Of the three, I found the spigot and the tower jaws to be the most usefull. I beleive that Jet is the comparable to Delta. Hope this info is helpfull.

All the best,
Tano
Tano
Spigot Jaws, great for stem work, drilling delrin, rod stock, turning inlays etc. #2 profiled jaws I use for turning and drilling stummels. Haven't purchased the #2 tower jaws yet. I'm waiting until I can afford another chuck body so I don't have to change jaws all the time. I use a talon chuck for the one-handed operation.
