Nice! I love the stem/shank treatment. Is that all stem ring, or is there a shank extension there?

I just rough shaped a similar one yesterday. It's going to end up fully blasted though. The ring grain isn't ideal for it, but I ended up not having a choice.

Beautiful. I'd love to see some different angles of this pipe. Can you post some other pix?

Wow Brad, That's an awesome Volcano! I've never seen anything like it. I love the flow of it--especially the effect you get with the curved concave bottom. The dark blast is perfect for that, as well as the shank. The curve of the shank beautifully matches the curve of the bottom, especially beautiful in the angle of the pic... Man, what a piece! I'd love to see more pics of it if you take them.

A couple of you have asked for some extra pics, so I have added them to the original post.

Thanks everyone for the pat on the back. This one was on-again off-again for several weeks, with a bad bout of artistic constipation somewhere in the mix. Glad it is done!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Happy Hanukkah to any Jewish friends out there!

All the Best,
Brad

Thanks for the additional pics. It's beautiful, Brad! I can see why it took a while... Lots of different things to see and think through on this one. It certainly seems to have benifited from its birth pains!

Brad,

Very beautiful work, looks like someone's going to get a family heirloom when they get that one.

One thing missing from your post is the underside. I'm dying to see that! If you wouldn't mind, that is if it isn't gone to its home yet...

Oh, and one more thing: how long did this gem take to complete?

Flix,

Sorry it took so long...Watched topic messages must be going into the spam file or something... Here's a pic of the bottom:
Image The back side had some remaining plateau burl left, and that is why it is uneven. The blast along the edges was more evenly deep than it appears in the photo.

Hard to say how long it took because I worked on it on and off over a period of time. I'd say three full days. It is now at home on the east coast.

Thanks for the gracious feedback,
Brad

Hey Brad,

Your picture doesn't show up. When I tried to "view image" this error popped up:

Not Found
The requested URL /pohlmann/Rich Volcano 022.jpg was not found on this server.

What's up with that?!

I really like what you did with the shape, very elegant!

Hope to see a fixed up picture,
