Search for the story behind Micoli and Coker

Post by piepenhoeker »

I restore a Joe Coker pipe and will list it on ebay.
Has anybody infos for me about the maker (brand) ?

Also:
I have two Micoli pipes in my collection which I bought a couple years ago in Phoenix, AZ. (I do not remember the name of the shop).
The original prize I paid for each is still on the stem.

I think I paid too much for them but I liked them - and I bought them.
Where do I find the story behind the Micoli pipes ?

Thanks in advance,
Rolf

Thanks Garry,

I forgot to mention:
On the Coker pipe "London Briar" is stamped on the other side of the shank and the number "570" is stamped on the bottom of the shank.

From "Micoli" I know that Robert Eugene (Mic) Burns was the maker and lived in California. A couple years ago they had the biggest private collection of Micoli pipes on the Chicago show. As far as I remember there were more than 100 presmoked and unsmoked Micoli pipes.
Since my pc crashed I lost so many files, pictures, and information.
There is only one photo left:

They asked about $18,000US for the entire collection but as far as I know it did not sell.

Hi Rolf,

There is a book called Pipe Artisans and Trademarks, or something like that, that might have some info, although sometimes the entries are minimal.

A better forum for this type of question might be www.Pipes.org or www.SmokersForums.org . They both have a lot of collectors visiting on a regular basis and someone there might be more helpful.

All I remember about Micoli is that he lived or worked at one time on the west coast, but you already knew that.

Good luck with your search and I'll see you in Chicago.

Hi Rolf,

I know nothing about Micoli.

Wasn't it Joe Coker who came in through the bathroom window to get high with a little help from his friends. :P

Lol, Rad, I think you talk about Joe Cocker.
But as far as I know he is clean at present.
BTW - I love his music and Oct.13, 2007 I will be on his concert in Bremen.

And Micoli - well I am happy to have two of his pipes in my collection
and I will show them on ebay at a high fixed price to go sure that they do not sell. :D
