This is the chuck I put together when I started drilling on a Delta Midi lathe. It's based on a Oneway Talon 4-jaw, which retails at over $200 by itself. I haven't used it since I got my Logan finished and I figured I'd keep it around for a backup, but I don't reckon I'll ever use it again and it really works extremely well. The jaws are cold rolled steel, which I machined in a friend's CNC mill. Centering is just about dead nuts and the jaws are within .001" of parallel when clamped on a block. The price is $200 plus shipping, so, for about the price of a new chuck you can have one that's ready to go for making pipes. I'd probably sell the Delta Midi, too, but I don't really feel like mailing it.
