Stupid Pipe Trick

When I was a kid we lived in a little town called Becket Mass. A guy my dad knew in that town was wanting to clean his chimney. How he decided to do it was to take a small pine tree and jam it down from the roof and scrub the inside like one would use a pipe cleaner.

The tree got stuck and he could not pull it out, with the chain fall he had erected for that purpose. He finally decided to burn it out by pouring kerosene down there and lighting it ablaze.

The chimney was glowing red hot when the firemen arrived. They just barely saved his house but the mortar and all for the chimney was ruined. I guess a pine tree, kerosene, creosote mixture is pretty hot burning stuff.
