Acrylic Stem's

Post by Spence Pipes »

Does anyone know where to get liquid acrylic? I know a few pipe makers make there own, and I have a few ideas I would like to try. Thanks.

I know Trever Talbert has cast his own acrylic so hopefully he'll hop on here at some point and be able to help you out. If you don't get an answer sooner rather than later, you could probably source the materials on the net through google or something. It's not a difficult to acquire material, I don't believe.

Casting resin might work. I've been toying with the idea for a particular stem pattern I have in mind.

I've used it to make "faux" amber for knife/sword handle inserts. It might work for stems.

I looked on line, but there are so many differant types. I used to make molds for a company, so I got to thinking, if I can find the material, I could do some pretty cool stuff.

I think the resin I've been using is polyester. You might want to look for acrylic resin, if there is such.

I have only cast a couple of items with
http://tb.smodev.com/tb/uploads/Crystal ... ,_204).pdf
http://www.smoothonsecure.com/store/ind ... 999b518bb8
It is clear and bubble free. I have not tried coloring it and using it for
stems. It is also fairly expensive

this stuff (trial size - is it really bubble free??)

and others

coloring

should be fine, however I have not tried casting/coloring these.

I looked at a few sites, and found some good items. I'll check those out and see what I can come up with. Thanks.

I think pipe maker JT Cooke casts his own. You might contact him to get his source.
