Red vs. Blue tobacco

I got a chance to listen to some guys in at Iwan Reis taking about a certain blend being "red" in taste. I have also heard similar things in forums about a blend being "blue". Then I noticed the 3 star blend that many recommend was in a blue and a red. What does this mean exactly?

I haven't the slightest idea. Perhaps the tobacco blends are picking sides in the Republocats VS Democons political posturing?

Personally I prefer to describe tobacco flavors in real, familiar, and referenceable terms. If I heard a tobacco being described as 'red', the only thing I think I could equate it to would be a cinnamon gobstopper. Not exactly something I want to smoke. If instead a tobacco was described as having a flavor and aroma "like a campfire smoldering on the shore of Maine, with teases of salt air, and an underlying flavor reminiscent of Talisker 12 year" I *personally* would have a really good idea of what that tobacco was like. And would want to buy several tins.

I'd get a couple tins myself, Kurt, love them island single malts, especially Islay (so Latakia).

I've never heard such synaesthetic tobacco descriptions... red and blue? WTF?

I guess some of these forums are so insular, they have created their own argot.

I'm so glad this thread exists. Sometimes I think I'm really coming along in understanding pipes and tobacco and then I remember the day I posted this. I'm laughing as I type.
