can the 3/4 spade bits be re sharpened they look awful thin thanx Bob Clark

Yep, they can. Not a lot of steel there, and if you screw up they can chatter badly, but I still use them.

Removing (grinding/honing) material from the ends will create a new (sharp) cutting edge without reducing the thickness of the bit.
