A few pipe haiku

Post by Nick »

My other hobby, I guess aside from playing tennis; so I have two other hobbies aside from my pipes, is writing haiku. I love the simplicity and elegance of the style. A well written haiku can say so much in very few words. Well I was inspired this morning, after a short smoke, tow write a few pipe related haiku. Not my first pipe haiku, but some really nice ones I thought. So here ya are.

btw, modern haiku has done away with the syllable counting thing, so don't go looking for a 5-7-5 thing.

Hope you enjoy.

leaf crumbles
gently placed in the bowl
and sent home

wisp drift
on this rainy morning
hanging on the wind

the pipe speaks
softly
telling its gentle tale

long years of use
give this briar
a personality of its own

the wood and I
journey quietly
only to part ways upon death

inside this block
lay the seeds
of much pleasure

with sand paper
I search
for the block’s life

each dimple
reaches for
the sky

oddly geometric
the grains
grow

with each breath
the briar learns
its new home

lighting the pipe
carved by my own hand
begins its second life

with artful errors
the briar shows me
how it is to be
