Post by potholer »

Forgive me if I am being dense but what do you guys mean by a "spit coat" of shellac?
I have never used shellac as a finish
Thanks in advance

A spit coat is a very thin coat of finish applied basically to use as a base for further coats of that or some other finish. So in the case of shellac if you take a fairly dilute solution, like a 1 pound per gallon cut, and wipe it on a pipe before waxing, it does all kinds of good - locks the stain in, provides a hard base to polish against, keep dirt from entering the micro structure of the wood....
