Who's the Boss?

Post by Lakemonster »

I got to pondering this and thought I might ask it of all of you.

Custom orders excluded, do you let the briar determine what type of pipe you make out of it? As a religeous thing? Or do you pick the wood around the "pipe"?

Obviously most of the guys who choose the latter have a more than a few blocks laying around.... perhaps not.

So.... I thought I pose the question and see what your approaches are when you grab up a block.... and map out your course.
some days it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.

Who's the boss? That's easy: my wife,

Heheheheheee

I like to think I work in concert with what the briar offers me. Mostly I have an idea, and the briar says if it'll work or not.

The briar is the boss. There's no sense forcing a pipe out a of a chunk of briar that doesn't want to make that shape. You can, however, massage things a little if you know how to read the wood.

Ditto, I had some nice pipes turn out poorly until I learned this.
