Hi Folks,

here's my next one, my first try at "calabash effect" :

11 cm / 4.3" long, weight 38 g / 1.3 oz. Shank application of faux ivory, acrylic stem.

Curious, how it smokes  ...
Critique, please ...

VERY nicely done. i love the thickness to the shank and bit - a good hefty pipe. I'm not personally one for the wire-brush look, just not my thing, but yours is done very nicely, and the stain and finish look great. Excellent work.

Stemwork could use some refining but other than that I like it. Very cool!

Unusual pipe with an unusual finish. Is it indeed done with a wire wheel?
Cheers Rolf.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your comments - glad you like it :D !

Wayne,

You're absolutely right, and if I had made it to be sold, I would surely have given the stem more refinement - but for myself, as an experiment, I didn't care so much  ...

Rolf,

Yes, wire wheel. Works fine for those who have, like me, no sandblasting setup yet ...

In the meantime, I have smoked it for the first time, and the smoke is very full-bodied, very dry, without acrimony, not exactly cool, but much cooler than usually expected from
such a short pipe. Guess it'll become one of my favourite pipes ...

Cool, it's not something I'd thought of trying but will now for sure. I gues then name of the game is to try anything and hope you come up with "the" special effect.
Cheers Rolf.
