I finished this one up late last night. I'm not sure what to call this shape. Anyone have ideas? It seems most similar to a Rhodesian to me. The shank extension is black palm. The stem is German ebonite. It has a few small sandpits but they are small enough that I decided to leave this one smooth.
I'd call it a FH Danish.. there seems to be a lot of freedom with that shape.. I really like the way you integrated the palm into the shank... I'm working on danish varient also.. and have some Palm sitting around that I haven't worked with yet.. I was thinking about using jobillo but now maybe palm
did you use ebonite as the insert... from what I can tell you have an ebonite tenon you set the palm on .. did you use tenons on both sides?

The ring between the briar and palm is actually Absylux. I used it instead of ebonite because I don't have ebonite in big enough diameter just yet although I plan on ordering some 40mm ebonite with my next purchase. Hopefully the group buy here on PMF. The tenon is Delrin and runs through to the briar.
Use a grinder to carefully take the edges of the stamp that is around the letter or number off. Also use some electrical tape to line up your stamps. It will help make your stamping more consistent.

Thanks fellas. Things are beginning to click. Next step is to learn to shape before drilling. As you can see, I'm getting better at reading the grain on a block but I'm limited by my drill first setup. I've had my tower jaws modified so I can adjust the block by a few degrees which helps but not as good as shaping first. I'm anxiously awaiting the spoon bits from Brad.
Very nice pipe Wayne!! great lines and with notes and all
Can you ream the airway with how it is constructed?? stem could still be slimmed out some when veiwed in profile

Thanks, Love. It does pass a pipe cleaner easily but the airway can't be reamed. The angle in the black palm is at a different angle than the airway in the briar. You're absolutely right; my stems still need to be slimmer. Thanks for the feedback.

Sutch a pipe could be constructed so instead of gluing the delrin into the briar you turn it for a tight fit but only glue it to the palmwood so the whole extension can come of when there is need to ream
Hi Wayne,
I like this pipe ,it reminds me on a classy safari trip to Africa, sharing the campfire in the evening with some hunters as the pipe glows in the dark.
Just a beauty!
