Drilling and lathe shaping
I originally made this video for the SF POY mini-site for the guys that bought one, but I figured you guys might like to see it too. This is not the only way to shape a pipe on the lathe. It might not even be a good way. But it's one way, and it works for me.

Nice video, Kurt. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting that... always cool to see how people make their pipes.

I think this video along with Blakemar's is what helped nudge me further into the vortex...

Re: Drilling and lathe shaping
Thanks guys! Now that things have FINALLY calmed down some, and I'm not on the road for weeks at a time, the plan is to make another set of videos that takes the entire process from start to finish - with narration and explanation of the whys, hows, and wherefores of making a pipe.
Re: Drilling and lathe shaping
That would be great. Thanks Kurt

Kurt, That's awesome man. If you made DVD copies I'm sure people would be willing to pay you for them. I know I would.

Excellent video indeed. Add a score by Randy Newman, voice-over by Nicholas Cage and I think you're ready for Sundance.
Is there such a thing as lathe-envy?

For me, it is lathe usage envy! Until a month ago I had never used a lathe, ever, not even in shop class lo those many years ago. I now use the lathe to drill my holes, ala that video and it is ever so much easier!Hudson wrote:Excellent video indeed. Now I am going to work on actual shaping to a degree, using some different woods. I have to learn how to hold the knife, what to use, etc., etc., etc.
That's what I am envious of, knowledge.
