It was definitely good to watch. Seeing him go through all those processes clarifies a few things, especially as far as finishing goes.

It seemed like he was supporting the lathe tool on another tool which was cantilevered over the tool rest. On one of those close-ups, it kind of looked like one of those tools you use to find a screw's thread pitch, but that can't be right.

But you're right about all the safety considerations. I was cringing for what felt like half the movie. Especially when he was trimming that tenon and testing the mortise for fit, all with the trimming tool still spinning right next to his elbow.
