Rad Davis pipe making techniques revealed!

Post by SimeonTurner »

At great risk to life and limb, and recognizing that this will surely lead to an influx of thousands of new super highend pipes in the marketplace that may drive all current makers out of business, I have acquired raw video footage of Rad's pipe making technique. The world has a right to know.

This video is from a couple of years ago...Rad's aged a bit since then.

I think bruzer4821 says it all;

@rangu66 sure you can go out and buy one, but then you would be just like every other fucker on this planet, when you build it yourself it means more, plus you can customize it however you want, and this cost me about 5 bucks. you ever even smoked weed?

Its like he's some kind of poet or something...

That is awesome. I wonder if it passes the pipe cleaner test... And here I am trying to figure out how to make my smoke hole hit the chamber at just the right angle, and how to drill my mortise for my tenon. Who needs all that nonsense? I didn't realize I could cut my pipes in half and drill it that way. I was wondering how all you guys were drilling curvy holes.

Major mind opener here. Thanks for sharing.

There actually is some precedent for this.
The Inuit (Eskimo) made stems by splitting a branch, hollowing the core and then wrapping it back up with willow bark or seal skin or something. I recall reading it in Alfred Dunhills Pipe Book.

I know Kurt posted a very nice instructional video of how to drill and shape on a lathe but this just beats everything else. Fast and straight forward with a remarkable result!! :lol:

Dear Simeon,
Thank you so much for posting the link to my video. While I confess that my pipe making skills were in their infancy at the time of filming, I still use the *exact* same techniques to make my pipes today. To this day, I consider the glue job on the "really nice one" (see my explanation beginning at about 2:40) to be the pinnacle of my pipe making career. I really did put a LOT more work into that one. It's all in the vise baby.

You see what he did here? He admitted that his first pipe made from a 2x4 was a piece of shit, and instead opted for oak. Kurt wins again, bitches.

Smoke the oak, taste the cat piss.
