What is the species of the bamboo commonly used in pipes?

I don't remember the species, all I remember is that it is a part of the bamboo that grows underground. I think Tyler might mention it in the Pipe Making section... no I couldn't find it. It's on the forums somewhere tho. A search for it should turn it up!

Nick,

Wangi is the term for it, but that is not the species (I don't beleive). Wangi, I beleive, just refers to the root portion of bamboo. There are, I beleive, literally thousands of different species of bamboo. Unfortunately I don't know the particular species used in pipe making.
