Sorry if this has been posted before... did a search and didn't find it. Lots of pie charts about pipe smokers... could be helpful in what types of pipes to make, finishes, pricing, etc.

So, I guess if you want to be a big time fammus pipe maker, you need to make a hand-made, medium sized, bent briar pipe with a vulcanite stem in a classic shape with a smooth finish and price it between $90 and $125.

It's fascinating to me how small our community is, yet how many different opinions and styles still exist within it. Thanks for sharing!

Hey, no problem everybody... I just know there's a lot of discussion about pricing and learning classic shapes and rustication techniques, etc and they hit all those points. So, even if you don't personally agree with them, at least now you know what XX% of pipe smokers (the people you're hoping will buy your pipes) think and can gear your pipes towards that. I guess the flip side to all that is, "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing," but I still thought it was interesting.

Fascinating. Funny to see how my position vis a vis the answers to those questions have changed over the years!
