Sanding disc woes.
So I'm trying to learn how to shape with this shiny new foam hook n loop disc from Kurt Huhn. The issues occur when I try to sand in a tight corner... all hell breaks loose and the disc cuts nasty gashes... I try to chase them out, and end up with a skinny mis-proportioned pipe.... how can I keep from gouging into the briar?

Tight corners are best sanded with a French Wheel. Tim West sells them.

How would I go about making one?

That I wonder too...The Smoking Yeti wrote:How would I go about making one?
I have one from Tim West for over $100, haven't used it in months since I got myself a hook & loop pad. I tend to rough in the tight corners with the pad and finish them by hand.
I either just roll up a piece of sandpaper, use a strip of sandpaper or fold some sandpaper around something else such as a file or even a long nail...

Wayyyy back Love Geiger had a post with photos of how he made one. Do a search, I'm too lazy to go and look for it.
Re: Sanding disc woes.
I made a french wheel similar to Love's a couple of years back, problem was I could never get the blasted sandpaper on there properly, it always left big creases and bounced around all over the place.

Chris, your a senior artisan to me so I say with the most respect: Stop blasting your sand paper. There is already sand on there, all you are doing is taking it off at that point.caskwith wrote:problem was I could never get the blasted sandpaper on there properly
