Alice In Churchwardenland

Post by AldenW »

Soooo, you guys have been somewhat privy to the frustrating journey of this pipe, if you've read my recent threads (particularly here, with my shellacing woes). I've been fighting with the finish all day, and it's not perfect, but I'm done. This pipe's for a friend, he's gonna love it as is, and I'm out of time. I had a lot of fun with the shape. Hope y'all dig it!

One pill makes the stem longer

and one pill makes it small

And the ones that Mother gives you

Don't do anything at all

And the Sasquatch is talking backwards, and the Ostrogoth shaves his head, remember what Rad Davis said.

Sas, you're talking about the wrong pills... Keep your stem information to yourself.

I love that stem. I'm assuming it's spliced, not one huge piece of ebonite?

Stummel looks good, but your stem is too short.

That's actually really cool. I'd love to know how you made the stem that long. Is it more than two pieces spliced like Simeon suggested?

Thanks for all the kind words! And pro tip 'squatch; don't smoke in a rabbit hole.

The stem is one long piece of vulcanite; it started as one of the pre-molded stems from PME. They're quite long. I spent a good deal of time getting that wavy bend right!

PME sells a stem that long? No way.

Is the stummel only an inch long? Wowza, I had no idea a pre-mold like that was even available!

You would.

The back edge of the stummel, from the foot to the back of the bowl, is 2.25".

I hardly know, sir!

Thanks again folks. I might have to make another one of these for myself. It hangs ever so perfectly from the lip.

Am I missing something? The longest churchwarden stem available on the PME website is 9"

???

The longer one's actually ~9.6" from tip to tip. But yeah, that's the one.
