BulldogLand
Hey all,
I seem to have been in BulldogLand as of late. The last three pipes I've made have been bulldogs, magnum bulldogs, and man, I'm getting sick of that diamond shank. Anyway, here are three that I've done recently. Actually these are also the first 3 bulldogs I've ever done.
Take a look.
Thanks for looking.
Brian.

HOLY CRAP!!!
dude, I don't know shit, you may have f'd those up royal and TJ or Tyler will tell you where and how, and maybe rad will "help you" but as far as I am concerned those are bad ass. Especially those last two. Man what I wouldn't give for one of those... well what I wouldn't give is any of my lathe money, but damn I wish I had a bit extra. Seriously brother those are awesome, I love them so much.

"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"
well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin
"but what would be smoking to excess?"
Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Re: BulldogLand
#2 is my favorite by far. Something about the way #1's bowl gets wider after the rings bothers me. Of course all look wonderfully done. Excellent job, Brian, and might I add, that all these have a very distinct look to them. Your aesthetic is really starting to show.
Great job.
Great job.
Re: BulldogLand
Nice work, I like mine with a little bend in them ok thanks
Re: BulldogLand
I agree with you on the rings. Unfortunately, the customer requested them that way. He sent me a pic and said, "can you make it like this?". But, it sold, so that's good. The 3rd killed me because the customer wanted it natural to allow for a patina with age. I SO wanted to show off that grain with a nice contrast stain.Ocelot55 wrote:#2 is my favorite by far. Re: BulldogLand
#2 really hit me. Good contrast in both stain and texture. Very well done.
Re: BulldogLand
Number 1 and 3 are perfect.. I can't believe you even posted that second pipe.. it's ugly.. not at all representative of you skills... I know a drawer it can hide out in .. we'll call it the drawer of shame... need my address?

Re: BulldogLand
Oheyder! I like 'em! especially the last two, and #2 is my favorite- too bad about the contrast stain though
Re: BulldogLand
Damn, Brian. These are winners.
Re: BulldogLand
The second one is beautiful. Well done. I agree that your personal style is starting to really show in some of these.
The way to make people want to smoke your pipes is to develop a reputation for excellence in your work. This takes a lot of hard work and several years to accomplish, and there are no short cuts. You just have to keep at it. - Rad Davis

Magnificent pipes. Number 3, the stubby bulldog, looks like it needs a home... (No, *must not* spend the mortgage money... again.)
I'm curious about the tradition of the diamond shape of bulldog shanks. Who the hell came up with that? It's not particularly comfortable to hold, it looks like it'd be a bear to make and, aside from the shape contrast with the round bowl, doesn't seem to serve any practical or design purpose. I can't find any reference to when and where the shape began to take hold in the pipe world.
If you send me pipe number 3, I could do some research on the matter. Might take years, though...
Congratulations on the pipes. Great work.
