The Darn Pipe Took Over

So, the other day I was making a pipe for a collector and I totally botched it. He had asked for a bulldog with a 1" chamber and a wide top. That makes for a very large pipe in diameter. He also wanted what he calls his "favorite saddle stem".

So I drew up the pipe and got started on it. I ended up getting in the zone and worked on it for several hours straight, concentrating hard on getting the lines of the diamond shank to look good and so on. When I had gotten it to the point where it was ready to be stained, I decided it was a good time to take a break. I brought the pipe in with me and sat down to inspect it some when I noticed the original drawing glaring at me... I totally put the wrong stem on it. I put a tapered stem instead of the saddle. In addition, I had tapered the shank enough that just adding a saddle stem wouldn't look that great in my opinion.

I basically made the wrong pipe. It was like the pipe took over or something, but really I just spaced it.

Actually, the customer wants to see how it looks when it's finished. He said he might end up wanting it. I'll be finishing it up tonight. The grain on it is amazing!
