I had this stummel lying on the bench with a flaw through the shank and one on the front of the bowl. My blocks are finished and I couldn't sit and do nothing..
Also the first rustication in 7 years of pipemaking.

I'd say you made good of a bad situation. From a distance, that rustication almost looks like a blast. I like it. I think I'd like more taper, closer to the saddle, but not knowing the dimensions, that may not have been an option.

Rustication is definitely not going to become a habit! Too much work and too much hassle!
I think I agree with you on the taper.

Very beautiful pipe. I love the rustication, it's one of my favorite rustications I've seen. I'd really like to know how you did that. Is that your new stamp? Very classy and "pipey" looking. Good job.
