Fuckin Cannoy thinks he's hot shit. Well he's not the only one around here who can crank out bitchin' grain.
This is an oval shank number, specification on the commission was "Pesaro billiard, compressed". So you take a Canadian and give it billiard proportions and a pot bowl... it worked out pretty neat.
And another bent billiard, Peterson meets Mastro de Paja: This is for a guy I sold a pipe to a long time ago, and he said "make me a 1/2 bent, dark brown, but only when you have a piece of wood that's perfect." I've chucked out about 3. This one worked!
Both these pipes were super fun to make - the briar co-operated and things just went super smooth for once.

Well... er, me. I thought.
Someone at another forum linked to a couple threads here, and in both I was just bashing away at you, Ernie, and I actually had to post my explanation for the constant denigration on the other board. It was pretty funny.

Maybe we can get a pic of us hugging in Chicago? You can use that as your avatar.

Maybe you can teach me how to apply fossilized moose-knuckle shank caps?

Re: All Italian like
Some guy on smokers forum was like "I'd like the shank slightly longer and a bit slenderer" I was thinkin' "Sas doesn't make slender!" Besides... this is supposed to be Italian-style, right?
Re: All Italian like
That bent billiard is outstanding. Great job on a classic shape.

(either one) like these, and to be able to have made them. I can tell they will smoke great. How long did you wait for that briar? I hope they go to experienced pipe smokers. This is a good example of talent and a lot of hard work, with a gentle, great spirit guiding. You walk with the great ones. Thanks for making all of us feel good about knowing you. THe talent on this forum is unreal. Mr. sasquatch, You did good!

Oh! and don't let any of these guys hug you.
Re: All Italian like
Sometimes you just get a piece that works, and sometimes you don't. I had reserved a really wicked looking piece, ultra tight and perfect.... cut the damn thing and it was just a big hole inside. Absolute fluke. So you cry and start again.pipedreamer wrote:.How long did you wait for that briar?
Having around 20 pieces of wood to choose from allows a guy to take a shape and compare it to the grain on the blocks, and get something really neat. I don't have another block that would do the billiard that well right now. Or maybe I do. Sometimes I'm so surprised by the final grain that I really think I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
