Suppliers and sources

Post by caskwith »

Do we have a thread for posting materials sources etc? A large part of new member posts I see are asking about this. If we don't can we get one started as a sticky where we can all post the places we get our stuff as well as a few comments on pricing/quality etc.

Wait a minute this might be a good idea and I know those are banned :)

Geez, Chris. Always breaking rules.

I get a large majority of my briar from Steve, aka Vermont Freehand, on this forum. He has an excellent variety of supplies and is a great guy to do business with.

I've purchased briar, ebonite, and Fiebing's Dyes from Pipe Maker's Emporium as well.

McMaster Carr is my primary supplier for drill bits, steel tubing, and delrin.

I purchased the Beal Buffing kit from Amazon.com and additional buffs from PME and Tim West. You can also get compound for buffing in the states from these two sources.

I've also sourced a bunch of good tools from locally owned hard ware stores as well as from Lowes and Home Depot.

Notice that Chris in his altruism didn't even mention any of his suppliers.

Get it buddy? We're on to you.

There is a source list on pipepedia- however, it is far from complete, and it would be worth creating one for the forum itself to sticky.

Great idea. I would find this massively useful!

I'm particularly interested to see where Mr. Askwith sources his bits for obvious reasons.

He makes them from Askwithite, a proprietary plastic/molten rock fission material.

I thought everyone knew that Askwith Pipes were made with only the finest firewood and bit scavenged from the local dump.

I figured that's why you wanted the thread. It can be tough to find decent materials in the Isles, I hear. ;)
