Any suggestions on how to make one of these

I would do everything in my power to dissuade you from doing it.

I would guess a band saw would be the place to start, unless of course the "stand" is a solid piece.

im with ernie, maybe that isn't the best idea.

if the stand is one solid piece, I would use a burr bit or milling bit and then sand it to death.

I know how it's done. While almost every pipe under the sun is more attractive, I'm not here to judge like Ernie is.

The key tool is a bandsaw. The mystery tool is glue.

First, cut about a 1/4" slice along the full back side of the block (back relative to the photo). Then cut the top and bottom lines of the pipe. Take the two pieces that aren't part of the pipe, and glue them back on the original slice where they were previous located. POOF! A pipe and a stand from the same block.

If you want to get tricky with the band saw, you can make a puzzle box from a single block, same concept

Either he got very creative with drills and saws to cut it out (it is possible) or the pipe is not from the same piece of briar. The movement of the grain at the bottom looks a little different.

I'm looking at the third photo and can't see where the marks are. I am guessing he cut a slice off then cut the pipe out, then glued the slice back on to the two pieces and blended it in, but he did a good job of it. I can only see one spot towards the left where it looks like there is a break up on the plateau. Am I missing something else?
