Shop pipes
So i have looked an looked. I have read an read. I. Curious to see the difference of everyone shop pipes. Someone who has been doing this for a very long time I would imagine has a higher expectation vs someone like me who has very little expectation.

Re: Shop pipes
Ok so why would you classify those as your shop pipes? Simply becasue those are the ones you use or becaise of a flaw?? I really like the one all the way to the right.

Re: Shop pipes
There is a variety of reasons.. some I just liked for shop pipes,
From the left-
1st From a friend..nothing wrong with it
- pipe behind this has nothing wrong with it
2nd nothing is wrong with it
3rd a little shaping error and it's drill a tad high
5th has super thin walls.. never imaged it would have lasted this long.. still going strong.. and I cracked the horn on the stem end when inserting a brass ring..
6th the far right one was bought in Georgetown D.C. - hard draw on it and I'm not fond of the stem
- Pipe behind was from the Slow Smoke contest last year in the UK
the cobs are just there.. I like them

many call them shop pipes because something went wrong and you don't want to sale them... and that is what's normally meant.. but doesn't have to be

Re: Shop pipes
That's so funny. I sealed this box this morning to ship it. I threw a cheapo factory in there for you it's a brown bent. It's not as nice as the one in the pic. But it smokes ok. I'll tell you more about it later.

Re: Shop pipes
It's nothing special but it works, it's been in my rotation for months. Cleaned up nicely. Hopefully I get to the post today.

Re: Shop pipes
Aside from the pipe I have from the Pipe in the Hat Trade last year, I have two shop pipes of my own making. Both are churchwardens.
The first one has walls that are much too thin. I don't expect it to last long. The second was one I set out to make for myself, though it was a shaping experiment that didn't quite come off. (It's kinda sorta a diplomat, but not really.) Regardless, they do get noticed when I take them out in public.

A pipe that is to stay in the workshop and not be photographed because it has problems whether it is technical or cosmetic. It is only for utility and should not be shown in public.

Re: Shop pipes
Aw, come on, Premal! You're not even going to post one flawed pipe to make the rest of us feel better?
But, then, I'm guessing that you on a bad day are better than many of us on a good day. So seeing your flawed pipes would probably make the rest of us feel worse.
Carry on.
