This is the last pipe I blasted. I will be keeping it or giving it away due to several issues. My balls will show. DEAL WITH IT. its the only way to get a top view without propping the pipe with something. I should have lined the bamboo with delrin. Now the stem is looser than I would like for a sale pipe. I also have a light gap between the ebonite ring and stem face. There is some epoxy showing at the stummel ebonite junction. I normally would have cleaned up the bamboo a little more and sanded better overall. stamp impression is a little light and a little crooked. Let me know if you guys see anything else. thanks for looking.

However, I'm not a fan of the flair transition into the stem. Get rid of those straight lines and curve the flair into the stem then, as Tyler has wisely told me, "get thin fast."

What that means to me now is: set the beginning of your taper very close to the flair and aim for a final thickness of about 6.5 to 6.8mm. Taper from there down to 3.5 to 3.8mm behind the button. At least that's what I do.

Thanks for the advise David. I am going to revisit this shape soon, as there has been some interest in it. I'm going to try to get more "flow" from the bowl to the first portion of bamboo, and also from the bamboo to the stem flair. Together with the delrin insert in the bamboo will make the next one a winner. Also I am going to try to make the spacing a little more consistent from shank, to knuckle, to stem. I think those are all excellent goals for your next one. Also make sure you've got a flush fit between your stem and the bamboo.

Lol! Too true. I meant I'm not able to see all the detail that I can on the computer, which makes it hard to effectively critique a pipe.

Don't get me wrong, I still think you did a nice job on the pipe, I just missed some of the finer points on this piece by not looking at the pics on a computer.

However, you did not! It's great to hear that those finer details are things you can see and want to fix. Keep being your own most demanding customer. Good on you!

The saddle could have more of a radius and sharper. I think it would make it look a little better. Less of a taper on the bite to the saddle.\

The shank appears to be out of proportion to my eyes. with a slight taper up into the bowl it may work better.

Shorten the briar portion of the shank by about 1/2 inch, and it would look a whole lot better.

Rad, basically a very short maybe 1/8" shank then straight into bamboo?

About half the briar shank shorter, I would think. Also, on the shank, try mymic the bamboo. Do not go straight.

I don't mean literally 1/2 inch, because I don't know how long that part is from just looking at the pic. Do what Charl said.

Make the shank 1/2 as long, and make it flair into the bowl to match the flair of the bamboo knuckle.
