Re: PITH 2015
I like the idea of a bamboo shank sitter. That would leave enough room for some creativity, while making some features mandatory.

Re: PITH 2015
I might try it again this year. Count me in tentatively. But if you pick a shape I hate, I'll probably bail.

Re: PITH 2015
I suggest we go back to basics for this one.
How about anything in the Billiard family i.e., Billiard, Canadian, Lovat, etc...
Or, if you want to add flexibility we could allow a bent Billiard.
Todd
(If you really want to get creative we could figure out how to make a bent Canadian and call it Sasquatch! )

Re: PITH 2015
How about we give it through the weekend to hear suggestions and see who else want's to participate, then we'll narrow it down to a few choices and take an official vote starting Monday. You can still join afterwards, you'll just have missed out on the voting process.

Re: PITH 2015
My two cents: I would suggest a sitter of any shape or form, with or without bamboo or other embellishment-it just has to sit. Bamboo can be intimidating and making it mandatory might chase away some participants. We had a fairly decent participation with the Prince last year. Let's see if we can top it. With the only requirement that it has to be a sitter should leave the door open for a variety of designs tho my gut tells me we'd see a lot of Pokers.
Re: PITH 2015
IMHO, the PITH should be a challenge, as it is supposed to be a learning experience. That said, I think the bamboo shanked sitter is an excellent idea, with the stipulation of no pokers! If it was easy, what would you learn?
Now, having put in my two cents, I will say that I'm in on this round... just as long as I don't get some crappy ass poker!

Believe it or not I almost went back and edited my post to say "of course there will be some that will say there's no challenge in that" then I thought nah, Walt will do it for me.WCannoy wrote:IMHO, the PITH should be a challenge, as it is supposed to be a learning experience. Re: PITH 2015
So we are agreed that it's non poker bamboo shanked sitting churchwardens then?
As a new joiner i am game for anything (except crappy pokers), but don't find bamboo intimidating really so wouldn't have thought it would our many off?

Re: PITH 2015
I like the idea of keeping the shape general and open to interpretation. Let us take a look at the past shapes:
2014 - Prince
2013 - Fruit, Vegetable or Nut
2012 - Cavalier
2010/2011 - Wallenstein!
2009/2010 - Nosewarmer
2008/2009 - Local Identity (not sure if this one happened?)

An additional function pipe
Whatever is chosen, I am in!

Now that's some truly lame excuse-making, right there.JMG wrote:Wish I could join up, but I head back to PNG in March.
All you have to do is lug an 800 pound lathe through a couple hundred miles of mountainous jungle, find a squad of locals to hook up stationary bikes & belts for power, knock out the pipe, and get an air courier to ship it back to the US in a little cardboard box.
BFD.
Where's your commitment, man?

Re: PITH 2015
I like the idea of an author. But, we just did a prince last PITH and I think they are quite similar from a technical standpoint. So, I voted for the bamboo sitter even though I have never worked with bamboo before.
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.
