I wasn't concerned with the flaw when it was 2 small things but as I started working it turned into 1 gignatic 2 inch long cavern, lol. I got rid of it but at a cost, those 2 small dots I pointed out aren't flaws, they are holes that I wore through. I am going to try and not focus on that next time around and hopefully the next piece will treat me kinder and I inturn, lol.

Ahhh! I see! Yes, that wouldn't have been hidden with stain.

Note to self: stain does not hide gigantic fissures
Thank you Kurt - this could be the turning point!

I knew there had to be a manly man on here, lol. I was looking at Ann Julie's pipes last nice, they are very nice. Thanks for the compliment.

HOOHAH! Me mui macho! LOL.
I absolutlely love Anne Julie's work. I have 8 of her pipes and they are just the jewels of my collection. I really love the aesthetic balance of her pieces. There's both masculine and feminine (is that spelled right?) Plus, I love flowers. I had 21 roses at my old house. Man, was I bummed to leave them all. Another pipe maker you might enjoy is Yuki Tokutomi. Nothing like Anne Julie in style, but her shaping has that same balance.

That's an excellent first pipe. There are plenty of small practical things that could be improved, as everyone above has mentioned, but FWIW I like it because it's daring and original, and distinctive. I guess I should caution you that this is also a major labor challenge to tackle with your first pipe, but I guess you know that by now.
Oddly enough, it's somewhat reminiscent of the flower pipe that my wife made as her first pipe some 11 years ago now. She doesn't participate here, but I can drop you her email should you ever want to get the perspective of another female pipemaker, and a longtime professional one at that.

Trever, Thanks So much! The small, practical things in life always get the better of me but I guess if I am going to try again I should learn them. My Husband makes pipes and whenever I would see pipes on here that he would show me or his own they were mostly masculine. I don't smoke pipes or plan to but wanted to make something that if I were to that would be more feminine. Plus the Dremel is super fun, lol. That's cool that your wife is a professional pipemaker, also. I'm just a girl playing with some briar. I have no professional aspirations, just looking to be creative and release a little stress. Woodworking is fun.
