Great pipe, great sandblast.

Does anyone know, if this wood requires the same process as briar in order to be "smokable"?

There are plenty of strawberry trees here in my place, so maybe I'll try it, too.

Sorry, no sandblast on this one ...
It got a "driftwood finish".
The other one that I cut from this block is on its way to Rome in order to get sandblasted by Paolo himself.
I'll show ya.

Has anyone found a place that sells this wood ready for pipe making? Also, has anyone made a pipe using the Madrone burl? If so--post picts. Thanks.

These two are both madrone. Not that my pipemaking skills do it much justice. I purchased mine from http://www.woodheadz.com Thats good to know that Mimmo has strawberry wood also.

I've read several reports on Paolo's experiments and they all seem very positive. From what I understand it is the wood of the tree which is used rather than the root, although that may be back to front.

to prevent it from cracking, i work with freshly cut wood or fairly new and then i use it as soon as i can and it works for me

Apparently the wood is too soft to make smooth pipes out of it, because it gets dents too easy.
It's ideal for blasting, though.

Glorious! Quite a successful collaboration, I'd say.

Thanks for sharing.

So, is this stuff lighter than briar?
