That's very impressive, Walt. I'm in awe. The pipe is excellent but the case is especially well crafted.

This pipe smokes like a dream, the cleanest smoke I've ever had. Smoked the first bowl today since it arrived today. The level of craftsmanship in this entire project is astonishing!! I am honored to have this in the front of my pipe collection. It's already barely taking on color after the first smoke, it'll be cool to see it age through the years. And yes, block meer isn't the easiest thing to get out of Turkey, but it IS possible....

What's the case structural material?

Also, did you cut down a bigger pipe or something? I thought raw meer wasn't available outside Turkey.
Somewhere along the line, I got the impression that meer cases were made from paper mache... I tried that, it didn't turn out so well. In desperation, I sacrificed a CAO meerschaum case to dissection and discovered that its guts were made of balsa. Lemme tell ya, after years of hacking away at briar, balsa cuts like hot butter! So, the structural material is balsa!

The stummel is cut from raw block. It's not supposed to be available outside of Turkey, but...
I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw raw meer available from Vermont Freehand.

that was correct, I did have some at one point, but it sold out rather quickly, not sure if i can get more, it's a little tricky to get to the states, and really risky

Congratulations on owning a very nice pipe. When you write risky, do you mean Midnight Express risky, or just that it is hard to transport without damage? 8)

midnight express risky  risky to get through Turkish customs, it's in the clear after that, and not too bad with damage. Trying to find someone in Turkey to make it work through customs is the hard part.

That's what I thought. Now, I wonder how many of the whippersnappers will have to go look up that reference.

Isn't partially/barely carver available commercially?
