Whenever I do work with square stock, I round it on the disc sander till it's close to round and then put it in my self-centering chuck and turn it round on one side and flip it to turn it round on the other. I do this on my metal lathe.

Only issue for me is I only have a wood lathe at the moment. I have a oneway chuck at the moment with some smokingdawg jaws for briar. Id like to be able to work on blocks and stems without having to take the jaws off of the chuck each time i switch between the two, so i thought id get a second chuck.

I know the nova g3 with the pen jaws would work well for square acrylic, but i was just wondering what i could use to hold ebonite rods with. If i needed any special jaws for the round ebonite rods, or if i just try and center it in my chuck body.

I would think the pen jaws intended for use with square blanks should work for round blanks as well, but I could be wrong. A second chuck is a good idea. I turned a bowl the other day on my wood lathe and swapping out the jaws took me a while.

I'm pretty sure the pen jaws will work for round stock, but let me give it a shot, and I'll report back later today.

Awesome. Thanks guys! Is that the midi chuck by nova? How do you like it?

It is the midi. I love it. I have 2 of them. I keep my briar jaws on one, and I use the other for whatever I need at the moment. I'll probably get a nicer one for bowl turning eventually, but for now what I have works well.
